TL;DR:

The Accumulation Distribution study evaluates the cumulative money-volume flow of a security.

What Is the Accumulation Distribution (A/D) Study?

The A/D line is a study that evaluates the money-volume flow. The A/D indicator is cumulative, meaning one period’s value is added or subtracted from the last. The A/D line gauges supply and demand of a security by looking at where the price closed within the period’s range and then multiplying that by volume.
